The Doula School Aotearoa - Express Course
Lily, a respected doula and birth photographer, has supported numerous clients across New Zealand throughout their pregnancy and birth journeys. When Lily first embarked on her doula journey, she encountered significant challenges in accessing education that was relevant to New Zealand, affordable, and comprehensive. At the time, the solution was to piece together knowledge from various sources, often relying on trial and error.
It's no surprise that many enthusiastic doulas struggle to sustain their practice without ongoing support or professional development opportunities. This course is designed for both established and aspiring doulas in Aotearoa New Zealand, aiming to integrate safe practice within our unique model of maternity care. Even if you've received certification overseas, this course will provide valuable insights and robust information on how to apply your knowledge meaningfully and sustainably within the New Zealand context.
We will address common contradictions that may arise from overseas certification and cover fundamental principles. Please note that this course does not offer bogus 'certification', as there is no recognised governing body for doulas in New Zealand. However, upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion, access to the Doula School NZ Facebook group for ongoing support and connection, and valuable professional development gains to set your birth work up for success.

Being a doula means entering a niche and sometimes, misunderstood profession. Managing your expectations and entering into your practice equipped to manage the hurdles will see you committing to the cause and building your reputation with time.

Lesson 3: Not America
USA birth practices have infiltrated common knowledge when it comes to birth, and this is a problem! It is especially a problem when we consider most New Zealand doulas become certified via North American programs.
In this lesson, will discuss common contradictions, and hold space for what our local consumers must genuinely consider.

Supporting Birth Partners
From unseen, vicarious trauma, to being made out to be an annoying bystander, birth partners, especially male spouses, are not given the tools to meaningfully participate in childbirth.
